About
As the COVD-19 pandemic took hold in our society and led to public health policies and mandates, Allies for Truth & Conscience began in 2021 when a few parishioners in the Diocese of Orange decided to organize and help safeguard respect for conscience and moral objection to medical mandates.
Our movement grows every day as mandates multiply in California and the hierarchy of the Church in our state does little or nothing to protect medical freedom and the sovereignty of conscience.
Our Alliance includes people, regardless of their religious or political affiliation, who wish to protect respect for conscience and to defend the role of the scientific method in making one's own medical decisions.
We challenge the status quo in the Church that fails to promote the dignity of conscience, and we seek to hold our Church leaders accountable to Christian doctrine and Catholic social teaching, as we work for solutions that will transform the local Church and society.
Our Campaigns
We work to ensure the People of God have the knowledge, resources and opportunities to protect their own individual conscience rights, and to help make a real change for dignity and freedom of conscience in the diocese.
We see our campaigns as collective efforts and tools for education and connection with each other as we develop a stronger voice as the People of God. This common voice of the People of God in the Church is signified by the theological term "sensus fidelium", a universal appreciation of and consent to the faith and morals taught by the Church.
Study & Learning
Allies for Truth & Conscience provides learning and discussion opportunities regarding the Church's teaching on the dignity and freedom of conscience, and how that intersects with the common good and with certain public health policies such as vaccine and mask mandates.
Our opportunities for learning and forming our conscience in doctrinal and scientific truth range from in-person presentations to written materials available online, Come join us as we continue to educate ourselves so we can make just and prudent moral decisions.
See our Upcoming Events section near the top of the page for opportunities coming up.
Conscientious Objection Support
Supporting those with a moral objection to medically-related mandates is an essential pillar of our movement. We work to inform and encourage others to take a stand for what they believe in, particularly when they need to apply for a religious exemption to a medically-related mandate.
We have written materials and clergy resources to support you in submitting the strongest application for a religious exemption possible.
We're available to coach you through the process, and we get you in touch with the small number of clergy in Southern California who are willing to sign their names on our applications so we can have the Church more visibly and more fully behind us in our religious exemption applications.
Email us at truthandconscience@protonmail.org if you'd like to speak to us about helping you get your religious exemption application put together. and we can also put you in touch with clergy who can sign on to your exemption application.
Persuading Church Leaders for Change
We are a growing movement of activists. Organizing and acting for change is close to our hearts. We believe our Church leadership can do better in safeguarding conscience and defending the respect and protection that is due to those who have a bona fide moral objections to certain medical interventions.
Through petitions, letter-writing and demonstrations, we strive to address our concerns firmly and respectfully to the shepherds of our Church so that they might build a more just Christian society within the Church.
